ENGINEERING
DEPARTMENT
The
Engineering Department is responsible for maintaining equipment
according to company and FCC standards. Duties include set up of
computer workstations and maintenance of on-air, production, LAN/WAN
and servers. Responsibilities also include maintenance of the transmitters,
antennas, towers and relay support. The operational facility is
supported by engineers who handle the air and production equipment
such as tape decks, microphones, mixing boards, amplifiers and speakers.
They also handle administrative needs such as software installation
and troubleshooting, printer and fax repairs, telephone systems,
and general design and upkeep of the facility.
The
Engineering Department internship runs for approximately one week.
The student reports to the Chief Engineer. Activities and duties
are established by the Chief Engineer and may include:
- Initial meeting
with the Chief Engineer to schedule the program, meet the staff,
tour the facility and get an overview of the department
- Tour the
tech/rack room
- Tour the
transmitter site(s)
- Observe the
engineers in their daily responsibilities
- Assist the
engineers in tasks when appropriate depending on the student's
abilities and experience to ensure the safety of all parties involved
- Complete
reading assignments such as industry trades, periodicals and books
The intern's performance
is reviewed following the completion of the department program
