THE INSIDE TRACK 99X AND All The Hits Q100 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2007
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

The Engineering Department is responsible for maintaining equipment according to company and FCC standards. Duties include set up of computer workstations and maintenance of on-air, production, LAN/WAN and servers. Responsibilities also include maintenance of the transmitters, antennas, towers and relay support. The operational facility is supported by engineers who handle the air and production equipment such as tape decks, microphones, mixing boards, amplifiers and speakers. They also handle administrative needs such as software installation and troubleshooting, printer and fax repairs, telephone systems, and general design and upkeep of the facility.

The Engineering Department internship runs for approximately one week. The student reports to the Chief Engineer. Activities and duties are established by the Chief Engineer and may include:

  • Initial meeting with the Chief Engineer to schedule the program, meet the staff, tour the facility and get an overview of the department
  • Tour the tech/rack room
  • Tour the transmitter site(s)
  • Observe the engineers in their daily responsibilities
  • Assist the engineers in tasks when appropriate depending on the student's abilities and experience to ensure the safety of all parties involved
  • Complete reading assignments such as industry trades, periodicals and books
The intern's performance is reviewed following the completion of the department program
